NPs, MND-B Soldiers remove weapons from Baghdad streets
BAGHDAD - Iraqi NP and MND-Baghdad Soldiers seized a number of weapons in Baghdad, June 9, including
71 AK-47s, 3 sniper rifles, a Mauser rifle, 2 155 mm artillery rounds with IED fuses, 2 122 mm artillery rounds attached to two propane tanks, four RPGs, an RPG launcher, 3 SKS rifles, 3 enfield rifles, a roll of command detonation wire, in the Ur area of Adhamiyah.
In the Neel area of Rusafa, Soldiers from 4th BCT, 10th Mtn Div were alerted to a weapons cache turned in by several locals and SoI members from the area. The cache consisted of an IED, 80 57 mm anti-aircraft projectiles, 65 81 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, 30 120 mm illumination rounds, 12 60 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, 6 81mm illumination rounds, 6 61 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, 10 grenades, 8 RPGs, 4 RPG launchers, a 122 mm rocket, a 107 mm rocket, 5 rocket launchers, 5 107 mm rocket motors, 8 rocket motors, an anti-personnel mine, and 2 rocket motor propellant charges.
Soldiers from 2nd Stryker BCT, 25th ID, received a tip from a local about a substantial weapons cache northwest of Baghdad and discovered 163 60 mm mortar rounds, 84 82 mm mortar rounds, and 43 81 mm mortar rounds.
Soldiers from the same unit along with Soldiers from 1st BCT, 4th ID., on a joint dismounted patrol seized 25 60 mm mortar rounds, 19 82 mm mortar rounds, 5 RPGs, 64 sticks of TNT, a mortar tube, and several fuses at approx. 9 p.m. in the Saydiyah area of Rashid.
A SoI leader northwest of Baghdad turned in 6 RPGs, 42 RPG propellant chargers and a SKS rifle to Soldiers from 2nd SBCT, 25th ID.

IA finds cache southeast of Hillah
FOB KALSU - The cache contained 3 assembled EFPs, 10 unassembled EFPs, 3 RPG launchers, 10 RPGs, 127 blocks of C-4 explosives, 15 cameras, one magnetic IED and 2 landmines.
"The discovery of this cache is another example of the IA's increasing ability to gather intel, process the info and plan and execute in a timely manner," said Lt. Col. Darryl McDowell, the cmdr of 4th Bde Special Troops Bn, 3rd ID. "They take great pride in being out front and they really seem to understand their role in the success of Iraq as a whole."

Iraqis beautify barriers in Sadr City
Iraqi contract workers paint the T-wall barriers in the Thawra 1 neighborhood of Sadr City, a district of Baghdad, June 2. The barriers were placed in the area for protection, and are now part of the revitalization project led by MND - Baghdad.

Iraqi Police find explosives, EFPs
BASRA - IP found a large cache of explosives and EFPs while acting on a tip from a phone hotline in Basra, June 9. The house was in an affluent neighborhood in the Al Fursi district. Police were greeted by neighbors in the street as they arrived to discover more than 650 pounds of bulk explosive, more than 330 pounds of C4, 7 large body EFPs, 15 smaller body EFPs, a reel of detonation cord, a large amount of 7.62 armor piercing ammo and a machine gun barrel. The cache was in a hole cut in the wall of a room in the back of the house.

IPs detain 3 in Musayyib area
FOB ISKAN - IP detained 3 key criminals June 5 in the Musayyib area. These criminals are suspected of trafficking and emplacing EFPs. The detainees are also suspected of the January 2007 attack on the Provincial Joint Coordination Center.
"These detentions resulted directly from the close working relationships that we have with the IPs," said Lt. Col. Timothy Newsome, cmdr. of 4th BCT, 3rd ID.
Joint targeting between the Iraqi SF and CF Soldiers led to the detainment of the 3 individuals.
